Dunkelgrün - Regenwaldprojekte e.V. is a registered non-profit organization with the aim of preserving the rainforest in Latin America in order to protect the climate and biodiversity.
The focus is on the following activities:
-
Projects for reforestation and protection of the rainforest
-
Plattform for rainforest organizations
-
Communication and education on the topic of rainforests

A future without rainforest means more climate change and losing our natural heritage
Relevant UN sustainability goals:

Approximately 95% of global deforestation happens in the tropics and is responsible for 10 to 12% of global CO₂ emissions. In fact, every hectare of rainforest stores around 200 tons of CO₂.
In 2021 alone, 11.1 million hectares of forest were lost in tropical countries, roughly the same amount as the entire forest area of Germany.
What is particularly critical is that the loss of the rainforest is leading to rapid species extinctionLoss of biodiversity leads. In Latin America the vertebrate populations have been reduced by up to -94% over the last 50 years.
The year 2022 was a new record year of forest loss in the Amazon rainforest. Nevertheless, reforestation and protected areas could contribute 30% of the solution limiting global warming to 1.5 to 2 °C.

Dunkelgrün offers solutions
The Dunkelgrün Projects combat deforestation in the heart of the Amazon region through reforestation and the creation of (indigenous) protected areas with local partners.
As platform we support German-speaking rainforest organisations in obtaining more resources and visibility. Dark green shows options for action for different target groups to take action together.
The presented rainforest organisations were selected by Dunkelgrün and the focus is on the following main areas of activity:
